Fjords History

Furniture manufacturing started on a small scale in 1941 in the cellar of the Hjellegjerde® family in Sykkylven, a fjord village in Møre and Romsdal. Brothers Otto and Mindor Hjellegjerde were the original founders.

As the years went by, the cellar was constantly being enlarged to allow an increase in production, and the third brother, Ingvald, joined the company in 1946.

With a burning desire to create, the brothers built a business that has become one of Norway’s largest furniture groups and an important player in the development of the Norwegian furniture industry.

Traditional sleepers come with metal bars or wood planks which one can feel while lying on bed. Also traditional springs can lose tension over time, leading to sinking or uneven seating. No-sag springs maintain firmness and support, ensuring your sleeper sofa feels as comfortable years later as it does on day one. This means consistent comfort whether sitting or sleeping. You would never feel bars while lying on bed.

HR Foam (High Resilience Foam)
  • Firm, springy support that feels closer to a real bed.
  • Highly durable and resists sagging, ideal for frequent use.
  • Breathable and sleeps cooler than memory foam.
  • Easy to move on, quickly bounces back into shape.
Memory Foam
  • Contours to the body for plush, pressure-relieving comfort.
