Available in Microfiber Leather and Neubuck Top Grain Leather.
What is Microfiber Leather (a.k.a. "Microfiber PU" and “Vegan Leather”)
- A higher-end subtype of PU leather
- Instead of a woven fabric backing, it uses a dense microfiber (ultra-fine polyester) base that mimics the fiber structure of real leather hide and then coated with PU
- Result: better durability, more realistic texture/drape, better abrasion resistance, and it breathes better than standard PU
- Costs more than basic PU, but is often used as a premium alternative to genuine leather in furniture (this shows up a lot in mid-to-high-end sofa/recliner lines)
- Leather-like material with no animal products
What is Nubuck leather?
Nubuck leather is genuine top-grain leather that's been sanded or buffed on the outer (grain) side to create a short, soft nap — similar to suede, but nubuck uses the outer side of the hide (stronger) while suede uses the inner/flesh side (weaker, more fibrous). This makes nubuck significantly more durable than suede while still having that soft, velvety texture.
- Made from top-grain leather (higher quality tier than split-grain suede)
- Sanded surface creates a soft, matte, slightly fuzzy texture
- More expensive than standard leather due to the extra processing and higher material requirement (only the best hides are used, since sanding exposes imperfections)
- Common in furniture, footwear, and premium upholstery
